LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
Follow Jesus and Serve “FEED MY SHEEP” Service Origami Game
OBJECTIVE: Help youth read John 21:15-17 and talk about the Savior asking His disciples to, “feed my sheep.” He wanted them to teach others to understand and live His gospel.
ACTIVITY “Feed My Sheep” Origami Game.
Tell the youth that Jesus told His disciples (and us), “Feed My Sheep,” to serve and share His gospel. This Game* shows two WAYS TO SERVE with each of the numbers 1-4:
• #1 “I” Scriptures, Love
• #2 “Feed” Invite, Teach
• #3 “His” Example, Testimony
• #4 “Sheep” Prayer, Church
TO MAKE Print and cut out the Game and follow instructions #1-4, showing ways to fold the origami.
*PLAY THE GAME
Write “I Feed His Sheep” on the blackboard or paper. As you play, write the ACTION WORDS, e.g. scriptures, love (see Step #2).
Divide players into two teams, or two people can compete for the most points.
Step #1 CHOOSE A WORD: “I,” “Feed,” “My,” or “Sheep.”
Players take turns choosing one of the four words above. Then open the origami by placing their fingers in the fold pickets with the thumbs under the words, e.g., “Feed” and “His.”
Step #2 CHOOSE AN ACTION WORD.
The player opens the origami to find their chosen word, e.g, “I.” The Player then chooses one of the two action words next to their chosen word.
Step #3 TELL HOW TO FOLLOW JESUS.
The player then tells how they can serve using that action word. If the word is “Scriptures,” tell how you can study the scriptures to share with others about Jesus. Or, if the word is “Love,” tell how you can be kind to someone in need.
Step #4 COLLECT POINTS.
The player then opens the origami to see the points they receive for their team (next to the action word). The team with the most points wins.
THOUGHT TREAT Poppin’ Good Service. Sheep sometimes eat corn and we sometimes eat popcorn. Let’s pop some to share. THOUGHT: When we “pop” into someone’s life and give service FEED HIS SHEEP.
ACTIVITY INCLUDES – SCRIPTURE CHALLENGE CARD: Help youth Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.
John 21:14, 17 “This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead. . . . He saith unto him the third time, . . . Lovest thou me? [Peter] said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”
