Little LESSON LIFESAVER
I Will Follow the Prophet poster or coloring page
OBJECTIVE: Tell children that a prophet is called by God to speak for Him. If we listen to the prophet, we can receive God’s words or revelations for us. The prophets testify of Jesus Christ and teach us His gospel. The prophet’s words are found in the scriptures, and we can listen to them at General Conference and read their talks in the Church magazines, such as the Friend.
POSTER ACTIVITY – Prophet Poster
1. Print or copy the activity poster to color.
2. Talk about the poster, saying, “Follow the prophet! Like those who followed Noah, Moses, and Joseph Smith, we are blessed when we follow the prophet.”
TELL ABOUT THE PROPHETS IN THE HANDOUT:
• NOAH, who built a boat to save his family and two of every animal from the flood;
• MOSES, who went to a high mountain and received from Jesus Christ the Ten Commandments written in stone;
• JOSEPH SMITH, who was led to the golden plates hidden in a hill and later translated these records into the Book of Mormon (he also restored Jesus’s church so we could have the gospel today); the current prophet (read something he has written from the Friend, or tell what he has done).
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Let’s talk about our prophet today. Tell me stories about our prophet, and let’s read about what he has said. Let’s hang his picture so we can remember what he has asked us to do.”
THOUGHT TREAT: Prophet blessings bag. Have a bag of assorted cereal that children can choose from as you talk about following the prophet. Have children come up and say one way they can follow the prophet as they choose a piece of cereal. The leader can name a blessing for following each action.
SINGING & DISCUSSION.
• Sing “Do As I’m Doing” (Children’s Songbook, 276).
• Sing “Follow the prophet, follow, follow me.”
• Then talk about how we can follow the prophet (choose the right, go to church, obey mother and father, help brothers and sisters, be kind to others), then sing the words “follow, follow me.”
