What can I do each day that will prove that I am truly a daughter of God?
“Who am I, and who can I become?”
HANDOUT: Post this Matthew 5:16 scripture poster and give youth the scripture card “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” GO HERE ⇒ or download below ⇓
With the new “MINISTERING” goal we can really shine; it’s a new age where shining is expected; people will know that your good deeds are from the heart and you can move forward in service with a smile without hesitating.
There are people who need to be reminded they are a daughter or son of God, that they are special and wanted.
You can know through the Spirit of those who need love and encouragement. So, let’s rally up your friends to chip in for flowers, visit the lonely, make phone calls, make cards, take someone out for ice cream. Make a list and get into groups where you can REALLY SHINE!
Remember it’s the little things that count. Pray for inspiration and follow it.
MUTUAL NIGHT Activities
“Who am I, and who can I become?”
Most noteworthy, are our mid-week MUTUAL NIGHT activities designed by a young women leader of six years. These will certainly help you gather youth with the purpose of enhancing the ideas taught in this lesson “Who am I, and who can I become?”

Even more effective is to have young women class leaders involved in planning these.
They are as follows. You can click on each to see which activity they coordinate with (as outlined for this lesson) or view them all below.
These 5 EXTRA-FUN ACTIVITIES designed by Young Women leaders (shown in the chart) plus more. Be sure to share any you have created (e-mail us MaryRossContact@gmail.com).

FAITH-FILLED FORMULAS FOR SUCCESS. Gather youth to share inspirations from the prophet and general authorities and other Church leaders regarding making the right choices to obtain success. The entire activity could focus on these four suggestions success ideas.
“May I suggest a formula that will ensure our success: first, search the scriptures with diligence; second, plan your life with purpose …; third, teach the truth with testimony; and fourth, serve the Lord with love.”—President Thomas S. Monson, “Come, All Ye Sons of God” Details of these is found in his talk.
LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE CEREMONY. Have youth pick from a bowl full of birthday candles one – five they wish to light in after expressing how someone has lit up their lives through service or ways you wish to serve or would like to be served. A whole cake could be placed in the center of a table youth could walk around as they light their candles and tell how you can let your light shine. Talk about the scripture in Matthew 5:16 (above) and give each a card to take home. Youth can repeat the scripture. Then all at once blow out the candles.
LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE CAKE. Youth can remove the (above) candles enjoy the cake with ice cream.
JEWELS ON MY CROWN – SERVICE PROJECT:
1. Help youth use their talents to build up the kingdom of God on the earth by filling out this Jewels in My Crown service list (shown right).
Click HERE to Read More to find this. Youth can use this Jewels in My Crown service list (download below) to list to write ways they can use their time, talents and possessions to build up the kingdom of God on the earth.
2. Decide on service projects ahead of time, then during the activity divide young women into four groups or more to complete service projects, making sure to include those who come late.
3. Serve crown cupcakes. Frost, then use tube frosting to draw a yellow crown on the cookie. Place four or five jelly bean jewels on top.
“PROMISES KEPT” SCRIPTURE SITUATIONS SEARCH: Search together in the scriptures for various situations when oaths that were made and their circumstances in which they were made. Why were these oaths made? What were they? Get a feeling for the importance of keeping covenants and promises (see oaths, covenants, promise, swear, vow, and pledge in the Topical Guide).
“THE LORD NEVER BREAKS COVENANTS” OBJECT LESSON: Have two people (a young woman or young man and the bishop or adult priesthood holder) stand together with a metal or paper chain around them. Lock it (or pretend to lock it). Give the key to the youth. Say, “The adult represents the Lord and the young woman or young man is you. You have the power to break a covenant or keep it binding. The Lord will never break a covenant. Only people do.” Discuss how making and keeping covenants makes us strong and extraordinary.
PLAN A PARTY AFTER TEMPLE BAPTISMS: Take youth to the temple to be baptized for the dead. Have a special dinner with promise placemats and packages. Talk about the promises we made at our baptism and the promises Heavenly Father makes to us in return as we keep our baptismal covenants. Doing baptism for the dead will help us to help those who have passed on to the other side to fulfill their personal promises to The Lord.
• Promises We Make to Heavenly Father: To obey the commandments, read the scriptures, honor parents, help others, pay tithing, and attend Church meetings.
• Promises Heavenly Father Makes to Us: To forgive us when we repent, love and bless us, give us the gift of the Holy Ghost, answer our prayers, and let us live with Him forever.
THOUGHT TREAT: “Path to Heaven” Pudding. Lay parchment paper on the table for each youth. Have a variety of puddings to use as finger paints. Give each a tablespoon of each pudding on parchment paper. Have them paint their life’s path from earth to heaven. Think about choices on the path that lead them to heaven. Then eat their way to heaven.
