OBJECTIVE: Help each child understand that Heavenly Father and Jesus created the day so we can work and play and the night so we can rest. SEE LESSON IDEAS below*.
POSTER ACTIVITY – Night and Day Poster
1. Print or copy the activity poster to color.
2. Talk about poster, saying, “I am thankful for each night and day!”
• Tell children that Heavenly Father had a plan to help us, so Jesus created the earth, sun, moon, and stars—the earth to live on, the sun to keep us warm and light the day, and the moon and stars to light the night.
• Recite action poem, “Sun in the day, lights my way for work and play.” (Put arms above head in circle.) “Moon and stars at night, help me sleep tight.” (Put hands together under chin and close eyes.)
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Help me learn to work so I can be like Heavenly Father and Jesus. Help me play so I can be happy. Help me pray at night before I go to bed so I will feel safe and go to sleep.”
THOUGHT TREAT: Sun, moon, and star cookies. Cut out cookies in these shapes and sprinkle with colored sugar before baking. Talk about each celestial body and what it represents (night and day). Ask children what they can do to show they are thankful for each.
