Turn Trials into Triumphs match game
OBJECTIVE: Remind youth of the twelve ways we can overcome sorrow, disappointment, and depression with this Turn Trials into Triumphs match game.

Ideas to Turn Trials into Triumphs: President Ezra Taft Benson told of twelve ways we can overcome sorrow, disappointment, and depression (Ensign, Nov. 1974, p. 65-67). These are ways represented on the Triumph cards #1–12 for the game, shown).
Twelve Ways to Overcome Sorrow, Disappointment, and Depression: REPENTANCE, PRAYER, SERVICE, WORK, HEALTH, READING, BLESSING, FASTING, FRIENDS, MUSIC, ENDURANCE, GOALS
After playing the game, ask the youth to write ideas on the back of their cards and ponder them during the week.
Opposition Comedy Skits: Have youth divide into groups to write and practice situation comedies (5-minutes skits). Then pull them together to perform.
Skit Ideas – CHANGE WORDING TO SUIT AUDIENCE (For Girls): (1) A boy asked you out and an hour later Sam Sparkle, your dream boy, asks you out for the same night. (2) Your girlfriend Frita Fun calls you for a spur-of-the-moment party, but your room is a disaster area. You’ll be grounded if it’s not clean.
TO MAKE. Print activity in color or black and white. Cut out cards (you will only need one set of cards).
MUTUAL NIGHT OR FAMILY NIGHT ACTIVITIES:
THOUGHT TREAT: Opposition Eggs. Color a dozen hard-boiled eggs and draw a smiley face, picture, or symbol on each to represent the 12 ways we can overcome sorrow, disappointment, and depression. Name 12 ways. Give each youth an egg with this “Egg”-stra Strength note attached (shown below).
OPPOSITE NIGHT: Young women can teach young men how to sew on a button, quilt, or bake a dessert like a pie, etc. Then young men show young women how to change a tire, repair a leaky faucet, etc.
OPPOSITES ATTRACT, AND LIKES ATTRACTS LIKE: Talk about married couples who are opposite from each other in skills and likes and dislikes. Say, “Opposites often attract, as when a person has a quality that the other person doesn’t have, but it is a quality he or she admires” Then talk about how “like attracts like.” Having the same values in the gospel can hold an eternal marriage together.
“EGG”-STRA STRENGTH NEEDED: If you try “egg”-stra hard each day to overcome trials, you will obtain the “egg”-stra strength to overcome the next trial. This way you can obtain the “egg”-stra blessings that are in store for you eternally.
