PRIMARY MUSIC SINGING TIME ACTIVITIES to Motivate Children to Sing
CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD pick-a-song and singing command
11 pages (color/black-and-white visuals and instructions)
DESCRIPTION: Fun activity to help children choose the next song to sing! Comes with a selection of songs that correlate with the illustrations or choose your own. Hidden hearts indicate who will sing.
Children will enjoy turning the arrow to a child placed “around the world” to pick a song. They will find a heart behind the child image to learn a singing command. The hearts tell who is to sing or how the song is to be sung (e.g. “Loves Jesus” means anyone who loves Jesus will sing).
To Make:
1. Print, color, and cut out the visuals.
2. Write practice songs you wish to sing on the back of the children.
3. Laminate images and an entire poster.
4. Mount the world in the center of poster and attach the arrow with a paper fastener to turn around world. Post children around the world with tape, and post a heart behind each child.
To Use:
1. Talk to children about the arrow on the sign, “Wherever we may trod, we are children of God.” Children around the world are learning about Heavenly Father’s plan. As missionaries go to other countries, they teach families and children about the gospel of Jesus Christ, and those children who are being taught are going to Primary just like us to sing the songs we are singing.
2. Children can help pick a song by turning the arrow to the child of their choice. Then turn the image over to find out which song you will sing. Children can find a heart (which names who will sing or how to sing the song).
3. Post the chosen heart next to the child to show children which child was chosen so they will not repeat their song choice.
Singing Commands:
Hearts Read: “Girls Only,” “Short Hair,” “Dark Shoes,” “Boys Only,” “Wearing Green,” or “Brown Eyes,” “Loves Jesus,” and “Leave out a Word.”
Note: All children will sing when the “Loves Jesus” or “Leave out a Word” heart is chosen.
