POST-AND-PRESENT Activity
Ears to Hear the Prophet’s Words – Conference Concentration
OBJECTIVE: Help youth know that as members of Jesus Christ’s Church we are led by a living prophet today. We can follow the prophet by listening carefully to the messages in general conference and reading them in the Church magazines.
TO MAKE VISUALS:
1. Print in color or color, and cut out 8 sets of girl and boy faces (using 15 total) on cardstock paper.
2. Print in color or color, and cut out the 15 conference message circles on colored cardstock paper.
3. Glue-mount conference messages on the back of boy and girl faces, lining up the center lines.
4. Write the numbers 1–30 randomly on the front ears. Don’t put consecutive numbers on the same set of ears (e.g., 1 and 2).
5. Cut out faces, then cut puzzle pieces in half down the center line.
ACTIVITY
1. Ahead of time, place face halves on the left side of the board, mixing girl and boy half face puzzle pieces.
2. Show youth a completed girl or boy face and say, “We have ears to hear the prophet’s voice. At general conference the prophet, Apostles, general authorities, and Church leaders tell us things Heavenly Father wants us to know. What has Heavenly Father told us through the prophet at general conference?” Talk about things they remember.
3. Say, “Let’s play Conference Concentration to learn some great and important things our Church leaders have told us at general conference.”
TO PLAY CONFERENCE CONCENTRATION:
- Have youth take turns choosing two puzzle pieces to make a match. To make a match, the general conference words need to match. For the younger children, the pictures will help them identify the subjects (e.g., match up the suns or the hearts).
- If a match is made, have youth read the quote and who said it, then tape the complete puzzle face on the right side of the board or poster.
THOUGHT TREAT: Follow-the-Prophet Happy Face Cookies. Decorate frosted cookies with smiley faces (adding candy or jelly beans for eyes). Talk about how following the prophet or keeping the commandments can make us happy.
