YOUTH GOAL PLANNER. SERVICE & TALENT SHOW planner/poster. Youth will love this to explore their talents: The way they treat others and the things they do. Then draw themselves doing the service as a picture/journal. They might write next to a heart “Be kind,” or next to a smiley face “Shine the mirrors.”
USE FOR: COME FOLLOW ME, Primary and Home lessons, Family Home Evening, Activity Days, Sunday School, Bible Study
LESSON LIFESAVERS
SERVICE & TALENT Show (poster)
OBJECTIVE: This fun ponder poster provides a space for youth to write their service goals and draw pictures of themselves (to picture in their mind) performing the service.
ACTIVITY:
Help youth think of ideas they can write in this Service and Talent Show Poster.
Examples: Next to the hearts in the “The way I treat others” box they might write: “Be kind, listen, smile, be cheerful, or help others.” Next to the smiles in the “Things I can do” box they might write: “Take out the trash, help clean up, say ‘please’ or ‘thank you,’ shine the mirrors, make treats, help with family home evening, read stories to younger brothers or sisters, read scriptures to the family, sing during a family home evening.”
TO MAKE Print the Service and Talent Show Poster that follows for each youth.
THOUGHT TREAT Serve-“ant” raisin ants-on-a-log. Spread peanut butter on a 1/3 stick of celery and top with raisins (for ants). Tell youth that we can be a serv”ant” each day by developing our talents and using our talents to help others. If we don’t use our talents, we may lose them. We should set goals each day and work on increasing them, like the ants who build an entire anthill one step at a time.
SCRIPTURE CHALLENGE CARD: Help children Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.

The above activity illustrates ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES #1 and 2 in the lesson (see ideas above or click the Lesson 26 link below).
LESSON. To add to and enhance the above activity see (HERE) Lesson 26 – Primary 7 Manual – Parable of the Talents.
“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” – Matthew 25:21
From this scripture, youth can know that the talents we develop and the service we give are noticed by Heavenly Father. Then we are given more talents and more opportunities to serve.
*Enrichment Activities (that relate to the above activity):
Here are some ways you might help youth learn about talents and discover those they have and wish to work on developing. With a paper and pen in hand have them write talents they may want to work on as they listen.
• Brainstorm TALENTS (Things One Can Do). Cook a meal, organize a cupboard, plan a menu, shop for groceries, plant a garden, weed & care for a garden, write a poem, walk the dog
• Brainstorm CHARACTER TRAITS (Ways to Treat Others). Examples: Good listener, kind, cheerful, forgiving, patient, enthusiastic, positive, entertains children, helps the elderly, writes a get well note, writes a relative
• LOOKING AHEAD. Stephen Covey, a Motivational Speaker said, “Begin with the end in mind.” Help youth picture themselves with these talents by drawing their image with these talents on the Service & Talent Show planner.
Challenge them to start now living that talent. Jon Chamberlain, a Psychologist said, “Act as if you are already there; you’ll see a tremendous difference if you do.”
Help youth think of their talents as gifts. James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights . . .”
Matthew 5:14-16 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Youth could be motivated to achieve their talent goals with this “Let Your Light So Shine! meter used for singing time, now you can use it for goal time. Youth could write their goals on the backs of the candles and then practice working on them—then a few weeks or months later swing back to this activity to read their goals and talk about their progress. It’s also nice that youth can encourage others and coach them along if they have a talent in that area or just need a guiding “light.”
