I show my love for Jesus Christ by keeping His commandments.
Help the children understand that they can show the Savior they love Him by keeping His commandments.

Help the children recite John 14:15.

Ask them to say “If ye love me” when you hold up a paper heart. Ask them to say “Keep my commandments” when you hold up the scriptures. -
Help the children think of some of Jesus’s commandments. Invite them to suggest ways they can keep each commandment. Testify that doing these things shows our love for Jesus Christ.

Sing together a song about the commandments, such as “Keep the Commandments” (Children’s Songbook, 146–47).

OLDER CHILDREN
I show my love for Jesus Christ by keeping His commandments.
As you read these passages in your personal study, think about the children you teach. How will they be blessed when they understand that their obedience to the Savior is a sign of their love for Him?

Invite the children to share ways Jesus showed He was obedient to Heavenly Father. Show pictures from the Savior’s life to help them (see Gospel Art Book, nos. 34–35, 56–57). Ask the children to talk about times when they obeyed Heavenly Father.

Invite a child to read John 14:15. Let the children take turns drawing pictures that represent someone keeping a commandment, while the rest of the children guess what he or she is drawing. For examples of commandments, see the For the Strength of Youth booklet (2022). How does keeping these commandments show the Savior that we love Him?

AGES 1-5 FOLLOW IN JESU’S STEPS example sandals. Help children learn that Jesus is the perfect example that we can follow. Put on the sandals to walk in His steps as you talk about things Jesus did to live God’s commandments. For example, be kind, smile, love others, be helpful, say “please” and “thank you.” READ MORE
Ages 4-7. THINK What would Jesus want me to do? choose and match puzzle. It’s easy for children to make choices if they know who Jesus Christ is, the perfect example for us to follow. They think about what Jesus would do and then follow. Examples, FEED pets, and READ scriptures. READ MORE
AGES 8-11. I Choose to Follow Jesus reward list. Youth can draw a smile next to each reward for following Jesus and a frown next to the consequences for not following Him. READ MORE

The Holy Ghost helps me.
Jesus taught His disciples important truths about the Holy Ghost. Consider how these truths might bless the children you teach.

Show the picture The Last Supper (Gospel Art Book, no. 54).

Explain to the children that at the Last Supper, Jesus taught His disciples about the Holy Ghost. Share some of the truths He taught in John 14:26–27; 15:26; 16:13–14. -
Share an experience when the Holy Ghost comforted you, guided you, or helped you know the truth. Testify that the Holy Ghost can help the children in similar ways.

Together with the children, sing a song about the Holy Ghost, such as “The Holy Ghost” (Children’s Songbook, 105).

The Holy Ghost guides, comforts, and testifies of truth.
Have the children you teach received the gift of the Holy Ghost? What do they know about how the Holy Ghost can help them? Consider how you will help them better understand the roles of the Holy Ghost.

Give the children the following verses to read in pairs: John 14:26; 15:26; and 16:13.

Ask them to find words that teach them what the Holy Ghost does. Write the words on the board. -
Share an experience when the Holy Ghost guided you, comforted you, warned you, or testified of truth to you. Invite the children to share any experiences they have had. How did they recognize the Holy Ghost’s influence?

DOWNLOAD Let the Spirit Guide FLASHLIGHT TAG and more (HERE or below) to illustrate the following.
Invite each child to draw his or her face on a paper bag. Shine a flashlight, representing the Holy Ghost, into each bag. Then put things in the bags that block the light, such as a pieces of cloth, to teach that our wrong choices can limit the influence of the Holy Ghost in our lives. Let the children remove the things from their bags to represent repentance.

As the youth play this large poster match, they learn ways the Spirit helps us (found in the Book of Mormon scriptures): Change hearts, guides, comforts, testifies of Christ, teaches, protects us from sin, warns of danger, inspires, and fills us with hope and love. AGES 1-5. THE HOLY GHOST HELPS ME poster or coloring page. Children can learn these principles about The Holy Ghost: (1) Helps us know what is right. (2) Can speak to our heart and our mind. (3) Can bring us comfort and light. The HOME ACTIVITY invites conversation about what they learned: “Help me pray for the Holy Ghost to guide me. Help me to know when He is helping me.” READ MORE
AGES 4-7. I WILL REMEMBER JESUS: Last Supper shadow box. Children can remember (with this shadow box) the first sacrament Jesus gave to His 12 Apostles to eat the bread and drink the water to remember Him. He was about to complete His mission, to suffer and die for all of us. READ MORE
AGES 8-11 YOUTH GOAL/LESSON. LET THE HOLY GHOST GUIDE game and scripture underlining. This can become a YOUTH GOAL to Invite the Spirit or create a special Activity Day to learn about this light with scripture underlining, flashlight tag, and block toss to learn the following. The Holy Ghost will help me throughout my life! (bookmark with room for a scripture underlining pencil and scriptures to underline). On the flip side: Testifies of Truth – Guides – Comforts. Then, the other matching activities coordinate the above concepts.
SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION. HOLY GHOST The Comforter Can Guide & Teach Me JOHN 14:26 rebus. Youth can guess the picture prompts to help them memorize, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” READ MORE
MUSIC ACTIVITY. “THE HOLY GHOST” song visuals. Youth will know from this song that Jesus promised to “send the Holy Ghost to comfort us.” He is “Our true, eternal friend.” This “Holy Spirit whispers with a still small voice” to our mind and heart like a light to “guide us ev’ry hour.” This light will help us “do what’s right each time” we “make a choice.” We receive this gift of the Holy Ghost through the priesthood after we are baptized. As we CHOOSE THE RIGHT, we can have His Spirit to guide us. READ MORE

I can know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ taught that “life eternal” is to know “the only true God, and Jesus Christ.” As the children you teach come to know Them, they will find spiritual strength that will bless them throughout their lives and help them achieve eternal life.

Read John 17:3, and ask the children to listen for who Jesus wants us to know. Show a few pictures that represent ways we can come to know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, such as pictures of the scriptures, a family learning together, and someone serving another person. Put the pictures face down, and invite the children to take turns turning them over and describing what is in the picture. How do these things help us know Heavenly Father and Jesus?

Talk with the children about things they do to get to know their friends better. How do we get to know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ better? Share ways you have done this.
OLDER CHILDREN/YOUTH

Display a plant (or a picture of one) as the children take turns reading verses in John 15:1–9. How is Jesus like a vine? How are we like branches? What can we do to “abide in,” or stay close to, the Savior?

Read aloud John 17:3. Ask the children what they are doing to know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Share how you are coming to know Them.

POST-AND-PRESENT ACTIVITY. MY FAMILY WILL RISE UP flex scripture muscles – balloon puzzle. Youth can learn how their testimony grows strong by reading the scriptures; they also help them resist temptation as Jesus did. They draw a numbered word strip from a balloon or a container and match it with the number on the back of a puzzle piece. Then, read the scripture to learn how to GET STRONG. Like the Prophet Nephi who wrote (2 Nephi 4:15) “my soul delighteth in the scriptures and my heart pondereth them.” READ MORE
CHILDREN’S CRAFT. GUESS WHO HEAVENLY FATHER AND JESUS LOVE? ME! mirror and frame. Children can learn that God the Father and the Son love each of us perfectly before we came to earth and now and forever! They can place their picture in the frame or a mirror (to peer into) to see themselves as our creators see us. READ MORE
CHILDREN’S LESSON ACTIVITY/CRAFT. I AM A CHILD OF GOD heavenly family photo. Customize a child’s picture, glue their photo there, or use one of the girl/boy images to help a child know they are God’s spirit child in heaven, sent to earth. This heavenly family photo helps them know they are part of God’s kingdom that God the Father is their heavenly father and God’s Son Jesus is their brother. READ MORE
Blessings (fruit) come from following Jesus (the vine)
YOUTH LESSON ACTIVITY. FRUIT OF THE GOSPEL blessings bookmark representing the Vine and Fruit. Youth can know that God knows us from our actions: “By their fruits ye shall know them” (Matthew 7:20). The Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland’s words are featured here (and more): “For the fruit of the gospel to blossom and bless our lives, we must be firmly attached to Him, the Savior of us all.” Here, youth can write their goals to become close to Him.
