HOW CAN I USE MY GIFTS & TALENTS TO SERVE OTHERS?

YOUTH CAN TEACH their peers and siblings ways to discover their gifts or innate abilities using this YOUTH GOAL PLANNER. They can search, ponder, and pray about these so they can develop them to serve others. They can also discover these by receiving a Patriarchal Blessing from God. (see this GOAL PLANNER HERE)

ACTIVITY:

. . . PLANNER STEP . . .
I searched the scriptures

Example “For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God. To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.” (D&C 46:11-12)

. . . PLANNER STEP . . .
I asked Heavenly Father to help me see and understand my gifts

Elder Bruce R. McConkie (1915–85) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught that “spiritual gifts are endless in number and infinite in variety.”

. . . PLANNER STEP . . .
I am asking my Heavenly Father to help me develop the following spiritual gifts

ACTIVITY. Assign eight youth ahead of time to find (1) a scripture and (2) a quote on the following topics on SPIRITUAL GIFTS to help them better live these GIFTS. See the first, on “Faith” as an example.

If in a large group, divide the youth into smaller groups to share these scriptures and quotes. They can assign a leader to summarize these at the end (providing a note card and pen/pencil).
Also, you might collect these scriptures and quotes to share as a handout for them to study at home (the following week).

Faith: I have enough (Matthew 17:20) faith in Christ to accomplish anything He wants me to do. Helaman 12:9, 13. Alma 32:27 (“experiment upon my words and exercise a particle of faith …”).
In His talk “Christ Is Risen; Faith in Him Will Move Mountains,” Pres. Russell M. Nelson said, “Faith in Jesus Christ is the greatest power available to us in this life. All things are possible to them that believe.”

Also, in his talk, President Nelson said, “Deny not the power of God,” the prophet Moroni (Moroni 10:7) declared, ‘for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men.’ It is our faith that unlocks the power of God in our lives.”

MUTUAL NIGHT, SEMINARY, FAMILY NIGHT ACTIVITIES

SPIRITUAL GIFTS BOX: Create a Spiritual Gifts Box that youth can cherish to remember their spiritual gifts. Ask them to take small slips of paper and write on them special talents, gifts, and positive character traits they see in each young woman. If there are ten youth, they should all receive ten notes for their box, plus notes from leaders. Ask them not to talk during this time so others can feel inspired as they write. Open and close activity with prayer.

EXCHANGE SPIRITUAL GIFTS: A week ahead, have youth draw names to exchange gifts the following week. Have them thoughtfully select an item that represents a spiritual gift Heavenly Father has given her. Write a note about the gift, exchange gifts, and read the note aloud. Ideas: A magnet could represent a “magnetic” personality; a plum could say she is “plum” nice; a jug of water (a pure heart and mind); a bolt (she’s like a “bolt of lightning, fun to be around); a diaper pin (she’s good with children); a picture of Jesus (she follows in His steps); picture or poem describing this person; a handkerchief (enjoy her testimony).
