Part 1

“Get on the covenant path and stay there.”

President Nelson said, “We enter the covenant path by BEING BAPTIZED and making our first covenant with God.”

#1

I CAN BE BAPTIZED IN WATER LIKE JESUS: water wheel (Ages 1-5)

WHAT IS THE FIRST COVENANT I MAKE?

YOUTH CAN TEACH with this water wheel how we can get baptized in the water like Jesus (baptism by immersion). Tell children that Jesus was baptized to show obedience to Heavenly Father. He set an example for us. Our baptismal promise shows we want to follow Jesus and keep God’s commandments.

ACTIVITY:

I Can Be Baptized in Water like Jesus. water wheel AGES 1-5

After we are baptized, we can receive a special priesthood blessing to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost to guide us to make righteous choices (like Jesus).

BAPTISM puts us on the covenant path that leads us back to heaven. We can stay on this covenant path as we obey God’s commandments.

HEAVEN’S GATE: BAPTISM The gate to the strait and narrow path covenants reminder (ages 8-11)

HOW CAN STAYING ON THE PATH GET ME BACK TO HEAVEN?

YOUTH CAN TEACH that BAPTISM is the gate that opens onto the straight and narrow PATH that leads back to heaven.

ACTIVITY:
The sign on the road reads “I’m heaven-sent and heaven-bound.”

Below the path reads, “I want to stay on the strait and narrow path. As a Member, I Will:
– Help and love others.
– Stand as a witness of Heavenly Father and Jesus at all times wherever I go!
– Keep Heavenly Father’s commandments.”

Place the gate on the path and read 2 Nephi 31:17-19 to learn that REPENTANCE, then BAPTISM, and then receiving the Holy Ghost opens the gate (OPEN THE GATE) and puts us on the straight path leading to eternal life (with Heavenly Father and Jesus).

HOW DO WE STAY ON THE PATH? 2 Nephi 31:20 suggests how by having hope in Christ and love for God and others. Study the gospel, and make righteous choices to have ETERNAL LIFE.

HOW CAN I SHOW LOVE TO OTHERS?

YOUTH CAN TEACH others that we can follow Jesus Christ’s example by helping and serving others.

ACTIVITY:

Each child can create and give this card to a friend, neighbor,  someone they love. Gather in a circle and discuss possible ways to serve. Let the children talk about ways they have shown love in their family.

LOVE AND KINDNESS Friend or Foe Slap Game (ages 8-teen)

POST-AND-PRESENT Activity FRIEND-or-FOE? (Slap Game / Flip Game)
HOW CAN I BE A TRUE FRIEND?

YOUTH CAN TEACH other youth the difference between being a FRIEND and a FOE. A FRIEND is patient, cheerful, nice, and helpful. A FOE is impatient, unkind, grouchy, and unhelpful.

ACTIVITY:

Give points to teams with right answers; team with most points wins!

#1 FRIEND-OR-FOE? SLAP GAME: Mount the face signs on the board, and line youth up in two teams facing their signs. The leader reads the top portion of the card and then one of the actions below (without saying FRIEND or FOE). The two players compete to see who slaps the right face first. Does the action make a friend SMILE, showing they are a FRIEND, or does the action make a friend FROWN, showing they are a FOE? You could also read the other action (FRIEND or FOE) and talk about it.

#2 FRIEND-OR-FOE? FLIP GAME: Divide youth into two teams, keeping them in their seats, or continue with the same teams as #1, only seated. Take turns choosing players in the teams to come up front to hold the faces on the sticks. Play the same as #1 above only now the two competing youth flip their face to the correct face/answer (FRIEND smile) or FOE frown).

President Nelson said, “Virtue makes everything better and happier” and “will free you from anxious, troublesome thoughts.

Part 4

“Prepare for the Second Coming”

President Nelson said that even though we do not know the day or the hour of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, “I do know that the Lord is prompting me to urge us to get ready for that ‘Great and dreadful day’” (Malachi 4:5; see also Zephaniah 1:14–18).

“He is preparing to come again. May we likewise prepare to receive Him,” he said.

Increased time in the temple will help us prepare for the Second Coming, he taught, and it will increase our capacity for both charity and virtue and our confidence before Him.

He concluded with a promise that “as we go to our Heavenly Father with increasing confidence, we will be filled with more joy and our faith in Jesus Christ will increase. We will begin to experience spiritual power that exceeds our greatest hopes.”

Part 5

LET THE SPIRIT BE YOUR GUIDE

President Nelson said, “Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory. But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.”
