TEEN TALKS “Child of God”

Here is a Talk by Matix Eaves, Age 14 on “Child of God”

He is a youth who understands his role in life and is sharing it with the youth of today. Thanks, Matix. HERE IT GOES:

What It Means to Be a Child of God and Treating Others As Such

Brothers and Sisters, Today, I’d like to talk about two important truths that relate to our identity and our relationships with others, what it means to be a child of God and how we can treat everyone as a child of God.

First, let’s think about what it means to be a child of God. In the scriptures, we are reminded a lot that each of us is a beloved son or daughter of Heavenly Father. To me, that means that God knows and loves each one of us.

In Romans 8:16, Paul teaches, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” I’m thankful for that promise because that means the Holy Ghost can teach us to know that truth for ourselves. It also reminds us that we are created in the image of God, with the potential to become like Him.

Being a child of God means that we have great worth, purpose, and divine potential. It means that our Heavenly Father loves us despite our imperfections, and He is deeply interested in our growth and happiness. Knowing that we are children of God can help us to make better choices each day.

My parents remind me often that

My example to others matters, and that people are watching to see how a Child of God or a disciple of Jesus Christ behaves.

As I work to improve my behavior each day to better represent someone who understands his identity, I can have confidence, knowing that I am never alone and that Heavenly Father is always there to help and guide me.

But even with all the truth about who we are, we can sometimes still question it. The world is very loud and very convincing that there are many popular identities to choose from. But I know that no other identity is greater, and has more power than “a child of God.”

Satan works hard to make us lose focus on our identity as children of God because he knows what we are capable of with God’s divine power; especially when we live true to our divine identity.

Something I am doing to help me stay focused on my identity as a child of God is reading the scriptures or the Church magazines every night. I hope that this will give opportunities for the Holy Ghost to teach me so my faith can keep growing.

Now, how do we treat others as children of God? Understanding that we are all children of God can affect the way we interact with those around us. When we truly grasp that every person we meet is a son or daughter of God, it changes how we see them. No longer do we see others as people with flaws and weaknesses, but as individuals with great potential, just like us.

Jesus Christ provided the perfect example of how to treat others as children of God. He loved and served everyone, regardless of their status, background, or circumstances. He ministered to the poor, healed the sick, and forgave the sinner. He taught us to “love one another; as I have loved you” (John 13:34).

In our daily lives, we can strive to follow His example by treating everyone with kindness, respect, and compassion. This includes our family members, friends, neighbors, and even strangers. We should always look for the good in everyone we meet.

Brothers and Sisters, let us remember that each of us is a child of God with great potential and worth. And as we go about our daily lives, let us strive to see others as God sees them, and treat them with the love, kindness, and respect that they deserve as His children. I know that as we do, we will not only bless the lives of others but also feel greater peace, joy, and love in our own lives.

I know that God lives, that we are His children, and that He desires for us to love and uplift one another as He does.

I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
