OBJECTIVE: The lesson helps children learn: The Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead, along with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He is a personage of spirit (see D&C 130:22). The mission of the Holy Ghost is to testify of the Father and the Son and of the truth of all things (see 3 Nephi 11:36; Moroni 10:5). He can also guide us to make righteous choices and comfort us (see D&C 31:11). The way the Holy Ghost speaks to us is described in the scriptures as a “still small voice” (see 1 Kings 19:11–12).
POSTER ACTIVITY – Holy Ghost Poster
1. Print or copy the activity poster.
2. Talk about the poster, saying, “The Holy Ghost can speak to our heart and to our mind. The Holy Ghost can bring us comfort and light. The Holy Ghost helps us to know what is right.”
• Bring a blanket/comforter that children can hold and cuddle up with. Talk about how nice it is to feel safe and warm with this blanket around them. Tell them that the Holy Ghost is the Comforter who helps our mind and spirit feel safe and warm.
• Bring a flashlight or lamp. Tell children that when it is dark we turn on the light so we can see where we are and what we are doing. The light helps us feel safe. The Holy Ghost is like a light as He helps us make the right choices so we can be happy.
3. Talk about Home Activity: “Help me pray for the Holy Ghost to guide me. Help me to know when He is helping me.”
THOUGHT TREAT: Sweet-Spirit straws. Give each child a straw to blow and drink from. First, talk about the special spirit of the Holy Ghost. Blow from the straw onto their hands and say, “The Holy Ghost does not have a body. We can’t see Him, but we can feel Him. We know He is near because good ideas come to our mind and we have a warm feeling in our heart when something is right.”
