I Am Thankful That I Can Smell and Taste

OBJECTIVE: Help children appreciate the senses of smell and taste.
CRAFT ACTIVITY – Heavenly Father created my nose and mouth – Cinnamon Toast Sniff and Taste Test
1. Print or copy the activitiy. Tape “smell” and “taste” signs over nose and mouth.
2. Visual will help children sniff and taste. To create Sniff and Taste test, have children wet a sponge with water and dampen toast part of image. From a shaker bottle they can sprinkle the wet area of the toast image with cinnamon and sugar (3/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup cinnamon). Children can smell and taste the cinnamon and sugar. The sugar doesn’t come off and it’s a great way to show and tell.

THOUGHT TREAT: Cinnamon and sugar toast. Prepare this ahead. Spread butter on bread and sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture (3/4 sugar and 1/4 cinnamon) on top. Toast on broil 2–3 minutes in the oven (not the microwave). Serve bread cold. Encourage children to sniff and taste. Option: Sprinkle multicolored decorating candies on top of buttered cinnamon and sugar bread before toasting. Children love to pick at the little candies as they eat.
