Teddy Bear Party (entertain small children)
1. Arrange ahead of time a special day or night when you can entertain children in the ward while parents serve (such as temple night, adult ward party, or Relief Society meeting).
2. Obtain Party Plans for the Teddy Bear Party and the stickers, tags, labels, and bear hat (shown right) for the number of children attending.
3. Gather supplies needed for the activities, snacks, and food.
4. Set table with plates, cups, and napkins, placing a name tag by each plate.
5. Set up games, rehearse activities, and prepare food.

PARTY INTRODUCTION:
Having a Teddy Bear Party for children ages 3-6 can be quick and easy if you:
1. Follow the Before Party steps below.
2. Know how to use the party stickers, detailed on the right.
3. Follow the party plans below.
PARTY PLANS #1-8:
#1—PIN A NAME TAG ON EACH CHILD with safety pin.
#2—DECORATE TEDDY BEAR’S SNACK SACK
1. Glue the “Teddy Bear Snack Sack” label on the front of a lunch sack, and the “This snack sack is for” label on the back, writing the child’s name on the label.
2. Write the child’s name on the sack as he or she arrives. As the party progresses, fill sack with snacks won for playing the games and activities. At the end, decorate the sack with sticker prizes won and stickers used for table decorations.
#3—PIN THE NOSE ON THE BEAR
1. Tell children about a bear’s nose. “Bears don’t see very well so they have to use their nose to find things. They sniff out mice, fish, insects, nuts, plants, fruit, and honey to eat. Let’s pretend we are a blind bear and put on our blindfolds and try to find the bear’s nose.”
2. Give each child their own bear face and a bear’s nose sticker. Tape their bear to the wall and hand them their bear’s nose sticker with tape on back. Have children take turns being blindfolded, turn them around twice, and point them to their bear from 3 feet away. Help them find their bear (they find the nose).
3. Give children and to eat or put on their plate, or in their Teddy Bear’s Snack Sack. The child who has taped their nose sticker closest to their bear’s nose earns an extra snack.
#4—PIN THE BEE ON THE BEAR’S NOSE
1. Tell children that bears have a sweet tooth. “When they smell sweet honey in a beehive, they use their claws and paws to get the honey to eat. When the bees catch a bear in their hive, they sting the bear on the nose. Let’s pretend we are a bee and sting the bear on the nose.”
2. Follow the PIN THE NOSE ON THE BEAR step 2, but tape the bee sticker on the bear’s nose instead.
#5—BEAR PAW FISHING
1. Tell children that bears fish with their paws. They stand by a stream until a fish swims by, then they grab it with their paws, using their sharp claws to hold onto it. Let’s pretend we are bears going fishing for our food.
2. Place a large bowl full of popcorn, goldfish crackers, and fish-shaped gummy candy. Have children sit around bowl in a circle.
3. Tape the bear paw stickers on the top of their hands with double-stick tape.
4. Have children take turns reaching in the bowl to fish for snacks until the bowl is empty or their Teddy Bear Snack Sacks are full.
5. Tape the bear paws on their plate, and the fish on their cup.
#6—TEDDY BEAR HUG RELAY
1. Tell children that bear cubs love to play and hug each other. These are called bear hugs. Remind them that we can give those we love a hug, or hug our teddy bears, but we should never try to hug a real bear or a stranger.
2. Organize children in two lines, placing two chairs across the room. Place teddy bears on chairs (one on each).
3. At the word “Go!” children at the front of the line on both teams race to the chair in front of them, pick up the teddy bear, and give it a big hug. Then they race to the back of the line, and the next player on each team does the same thing. The first team to finish the race wins an extra snack.
4. Give children some Hershey’s Hugs or other teddy bear shaped candies or cookies to place in their Teddy Bear Snack Sack.
#7—TEDDY BEAR HAT
Children can help you make this hat, put it on, and pretend they are a bear walking through the forest looking for mice, fish, insects, nuts, plants, fruit, and honey to eat. Option: Tape bear-paw stickers on the tops of their hands to wear as they crawl. To Make Hat: Secure headband to child’s head with a fastener (safety pin or sticky-back Velcro), then glue the front of teddy bear’s head to the headband.
#8—TEDDY BEAR FOOD
Decorate plates and cups with stickers (see Three Ways to Use Party Glue-on Sticker on the Teddy Bear Party page). Cut out the “This spot is for” name card to fold and place on table above child’s plate. Write their name on the card. Serve Teddy Bear Party food:
• FISH STICKS: Tell children that bears love to eat fish. They go to a stream, wait for the fish, then grab them with their paws and claws. Serve the children precooked fish sticks warmed as directed.
• BEAR’S HONEY BUTTER ON CRACKER (with Gummy Worm): Tell children that bears have a sweet tooth. They climb trees to find beehives and honey. They also dig in the ground and under tree bark to find insects, using their claws to grab and eat them. Serve honey butter on crackers: To make Honey Butter, mix 1 cup of butter with 1 cup honey and blend until smooth. Place in a container and serve with a small knife so children can spread some on crackers.
• ANTS ON A LOG: Fill with celery sticks with peanut butter and top with raisins or miniature chocolate chips. Tell children that bears dig for ants to eat, using their claws to dig them out of the ground.
• TEDDY BEAR CUPCAKES: Frost cupcakes, then let children decorate them. Place large gumdrops (pressed flat with a rolling pin) at the top for ears. Use one gumdrop for nose. Cut one gumdrop for the mouth and eyes. Roll gumdrops in sugar to make them easier to handle.
• TEDDY BEAR DRINK: Serve juice, water, or milk in the cup.
