PRIMARY MUSIC SINGING TIME ACTIVITIES to Motivate Children to Sing
Bird in the Leafy Treetops leaves pick-a-song & birds singing commandsÂ
17 pages (color/black-and-white visuals and instructions)
DESCRIPTION: In the leafy treetops, song titles can be written on the back of each leaf. Sometimes a bird hiding behind the leaf will name how to sing or who to sing the song. The activity includes autumn leaves for a Fall tree.
Use this activity to help children choose songs and sing in a different way by choosing a hidden song bird.
TO MAKE:
1. Mount visuals on cardstock paper, laminate, and cut out.
2. Write the names of songs children are familiar with or the ones you are practicing on the backs of leaves.
3. On the back of the five songbirds, write one of the following on each: Sing standing up, sing with arms folded, sing with eyes closed, sing turned around, only boys sing, and only girls sing.
4. Hide the five birds behind the leaves by taping the bird to the tree and covering it with a leaf.
5. Place the tree on a poster or chalkboard and tape the leaves around the tree, with the songbirds hiding behind the leaves.
TO USE: Ask children to come up and choose a leaf. Sing the song on the back of the leaf chosen. If a child finds a songbird behind the leaf, ask children to sing the way the song bird suggests, e.g., eyes closed (see #3 above).
