Righteous Radio 5-Way Tune-In Tool
OBJECTIVE: Youth can have their own personal radio check to see if they are tuned into the counsel of the Lord, to make sure they are in tune with righteous living.
ACTIVITY: This teaching tool is to help youth review the five ways we can tune in to the Lord’s will: personal prayer, study and meditation, the gift of the Holy Ghost, priesthood blessings, and patriarchal blessing. The latter-day prophet and apostles tell of these ways we can be close to the Lord and receive inspiration.
When general conference comes along, tune into your radio or television and tune into ways to tune into the Lord.
Youth can tune into these on their own RIGHTEOUS RADIO as they read the poem and move the arrow dial back and forth. Tell them, “As you are righteous, you can tune in to the Lord’s will and receive guidance throughout your life.” They can use their radios as a teaching tool to show their families in a family home evening and to their friends.
TO MAKE: See how to fold the arrow/radio dial on the pattern page and cut a slit in the radio to insert the arrow to move back and forth.
MUTUAL NIGHT, SEMINARY, OR FAMILY NIGHT ACTIVITIES
MEDIA MANIA: Have an evening where a member of the bishopric or presidency of the Young Women &/or Young Men present and discuss media (e.g., radio, television, satellite dish, cable, videos, Internet, and what to look for—the good and what to avoid).
Ideas for Media Mania Discussion:
1. Good: Talk about the good things good media brings to our lives (e.g. values, beautiful music, genealogy research).
2. Bad: Then talk about self-control and mixed signals, Satan’s design for the use of media. Parents can come.
3. Research: There are many articles available (e.g., “Reel Life vs. Real Life,” by Joseph Walker, in the Ensign, June 1993, pages 15-19).
TUNE-IN VALUE-ABLE LIST: Youth can record and make a list of uplifting films, television programs, computer programs, Internet sites, and songs that express the For the Strength of Youth values.
