New Testament bookmark “I Will be valiant and follow Jesus.”

OBJECTIVE: Use this two-sided bookmark and reading chart to help children memorize the books of the New Testament in order. Challenge them to say, “I will be valiant and follow Jesus,” each time they read the scriptures.

TO MAKE: Print in color or in black-and-white, then have children color the bookmark. Laminate the bookmarks in class using the Contact peel-and-apply paper. Paper punch a hole at the top and tie on several strands of yarn or ribbon.

ACTIVITY: Search and ponder these scriptures and underline them using the bookmark as a ruler. Youth can fill in the circles representing the chapters read.

SCRIPTURES TO UNDERLINE:

2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

Matthew 22:29 “Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”

Thought Treats for lesson activitiesTHOUGHT TREAT (when appropriate): “Seeds of Faith” Watermelon Cookies. Make round sugar cookies and cut in half before baking. When cool, frost with red food coloring and green on the edge (rind), and top with miniature chocolate chips (for seeds). 
     Read:
Matthew 17:20 as you munch on these watermelon-shaped cookies. Tell children that the scriptures will help them plant seeds of faith in Jesus Christ each day and they will guide them to be valiant in their testimony as they follow Him.

SCRIPTURE CARDS: Help children Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.
