POST-AND-PRESENT Activity
Live My Gospel Standards
Choose the Right Around-the-Clock
OBJECTIVE: Help the youth learn that by living the gospel standards and choosing the right every hour, they will be blessed. Also, these are promises we make at baptism to keep all of God’s commandments. These are the standards Heavenly Father and Jesus want us to live.
Also, study the For the Strength of Youth values (HERE) for older youth.
TO MAKE Print out and mount the clock on a poster, and laminate the entire poster. Mount the clock hands and numbered Gospel Standards action cards and reward circles on cardstock. Attach the clock hands with a metal brad.
TO PRESENT:
1. To set up the board, place the REWARD circles to the far left and right of the clock.
2. Tell the youth, “Part of Heavenly Father’s plan is for us to come to earth to learn how to choose the right. The more we know about what is right, the easier it is to choose the right. The first Gospel Standard is ‘I will follow Heavenly Father’s plan for me.’ Let’s learn what the rest of the Gospel Standards are that help us choose the right and be happy.”
3. Point to the clock and say, “We can choose the right around the clock. Every hour of the day we can live the Gospel Standards, and if we do we are rewarded with blessings.”
4. Have the youth take turns drawing a numbered Gospel Standards action card and turning the hand on the clock to the number on the card. Have them read the card aloud and guess the missing word.
ANSWERS: 1) listen, 2) repent, 3) honest, 4) swear, 5) close, 6) parents, 7) mind, 8) modesty, 7) read, 10) music, 11) friends, 12) temple
5. Then have the child choose the matching REWARD circle found on the board and place the circle next to the clock number.
THOUGHT TREAT: CTR Clock Cake. Make and frost a round cake and write the numbers 1-12 on the cake with contrasting frosting. Then write the letters “CTR” in the center of the cake.
THOUGHT: Tell youth to think about ways they have chosen the right this past week, and the time they made the choice: morning, noon, or night, and have them share their experiences. Or they can record and report experiences the following week.
