THOUGHT TREAT Licorice Maze. Give youth a string of licorice to compare with Sabbath activities by saying: “This licorice is like our testimony. If we do activities on the Sabbath that invite the Spirit, our testimony grows and stretches. (Tie licorice in a knot.) If we do activities on the Sabbath that do not invite the Spirit, our testimony becomes smaller (tied up in knots). Let’s name some activities that will help us stretch our testimony of the Sabbath and help us keep it holy.”

SCRIPTURE CHALLENGE CARD: Help youth Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.

John 5:8-9, 16
“Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.”

LESSON IDEAS

Talk about the creation where God rested and sanctified it making it a holy day (Genesis 2:1-3).
Help them decide if the activities would be appropriate by naming them and asking questions:
1. Does it honor Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ?
2. Is it a restful activity?
3. Is it of service to someone in need?
4. Are you making it a holy day of rest?

This Sabbath Day is a day of REST where we WORSHIP, LEARN, and SERVE. So, “What will you do to plan and prepare for the Sabbath day?”

It is said that “Saturday is a special day, the day we get ready for Sunday.” Song (HERE). Watch the video below.
