Moroni 7:16 (Book of Mormon) Scripture Reads: For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.

But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him.”

TO MAKE Print or copy in color (or color), and cut out the Bite-size Memorize poster for each youth.

THOUGHT TREAT: Truthful Treats. Plan a variety of treats that youth can taste. Have them taste these treats and tell the truth: do they like them or not? To trick their taste-buds, put a few sour or salty ideas along with the sweet things.

TESTIMONY: Bear testimony that we will not be deceived if we will keep the commandments, follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost, study the scriptures, and follow the living prophet.

SCRIPTURE CHALLENGE CARD: Help children search-and-ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. Print this 5 x 7 card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.

Alma 30:8 “For thus saith the scripture: Choose ye this day, whom ye will serve.”

Alma 30:60 “And thus we see the end of him who perverteth the ways of the Lord; and thus we see that the devil will not support his children at the last day, but doth speedily drag them down to hell.”

MORE LESSON IDEAS: I will not be deceived if I . . . (found on the handout)

#1
Read and discuss the following statement by President Ezra Taft Benson, the thirteenth President of the Church. Emphasize how the Book of Mormon is a powerful instrument in avoiding deception:
“There is a power in the [Book of Mormon] which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book. You will find greater power to resist temptation. You will find the power to avoid deception. You will find the power to stay on the strait and narrow path” (A Witness and a Warning, pp. 21–22).

#2 Give the children copies of the handout “Does this persuade me to believe in Jesus Christ?” at the end of the lesson. Explain that persuade means to convince a person to believe or do something.
Tell them this is a guide given to us by the prophet Moroni for judging between good and evil (see Moroni 7:15-17). Make sure the children understand that if something persuades them to do good and believe in Christ, it is good; if it does not, it is evil. The children may want to take their paper home as a reminder.

#3
Help the children memorize the thirteenth article of faith and discuss how this is also a guide for choosing the right.
