Lyrics

Have I done any good in the world today?

Have I helped anyone in need?

Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad?

If not, I have failed indeed.

Has anyone’s burden been lighter today

Because I was willing to share?

Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way?

When they needed my help was I there?

[Chorus]

Then wake up and do something more

Than dream of your mansion above.

Doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure,

A blessing of duty and love.

There are chances for work all around just now,

Opportunities right in our way.

Do not let them pass by, saying, “Sometime I’ll try,”

But go and do something today.

’Tis noble of man to work and to give;

Love’s labor has merit alone.

Only he who does something helps others to live.

To God each good work will be known.

[Chorus]

Then wake up and do something more

Than dream of your mansion above.

Doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure,

A blessing of duty and love.

IDEAS TO PRESENT THIS SONG:

1. Talk about service and how we can bring sunshine on a cloudy day and put a smile on a frowny face.

2. Tell a story about the good Samaritan who found a hungry beaten man on the side of the road and brought him to an inn to be fed and taken care of. Or ask children/youth to tell a story where some good has been done.

3. Bear testimony of the Savior’s plan to come to earth to teach us Heavenly Father’s plan and how He wants us to repent and come back to Him so we can go to heaven. Tell of the “good” Jesus Christ did when He gave His life so that we might live again and be forgiven as we repent and come unto Him. Tell a story of an act of service Jesus did to show us how to love others.
