LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
Preparing for My Life’s Mission
Mission Statements (Match Game)
OBJECTIVE: To help the children understand that they are beginning to prepare for their own earthly missions.
ACTIVITY: Mission Statements match game
Say to the children, “By choosing to come to earth we chose to accept our mission in life so that we can return to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus in the celestial kingdom. We must prepare for our mission by the things we do now and in the future.”
Read clues from cards (mission statements) that follow:
• Things I Am Doing Now: Receiving baptism, attending church, serving others, working hard, praying with purpose.
• Things I Will Do in the Future: Serve a mission, marry in the temple, teach children the gospel, learn another language, receive my patriarchal blessing, build the kingdom of God on the earth.
To Play: Lay two sets of cards facedown. Take turns turning two cards over to make a match. The one with the most matches wins. Talk about each action and how it helps us fulfill our mission here on earth.
TO MAKE Print and cut out the Mission Statements match game for each child.
THOUGHT TREAT: M&M Mission Statements. Offer 12 M&M candies as children each name one action to prepare for their mission in life—what they can do now and in the future (as described on the mission statement cards).
SCRIPTURE CARDS: Help children Search and Ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. PRINT this 5 x 7 scripture card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.
