POST-AND-PRESENT Activity

Follow Jesus
Gospel Standards (Points-to-Ponder – Spin-Tell)

OBJECTIVE:
Have children point to ways (gospel standards) they can follow Jesus (points-to-ponder) so they will be able to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus again. References: D&C 59:23; Articles of Faith 1:3; John 1:35-41.

TO MAKE:
1. Print, color, color and cut out the girl and boy circle, action circles, boy and girl arms, and situations word-strips.
2. Mount the girl and boy circle and action circles on a poster and laminate the entire poster. Laminate the boy and girl arms. Place arms where indicated on the boy and girl with a metal brad.

ACTIVITY: Tell children that by following Jesus Christ, we will be able to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus again. Ask them, “What are some ways we can follow Jesus?”

CHOICE #1 Turn the wheel with children’s arms pointing to ways we can follow Jesus (points-to-ponder). Note: Girls should move the girl pointer finger, and boys should move the boy pointer finger.
Have children come up one at a time and choose a situation word-strip that describes one of the ways on the wheel that one might or might not follow Jesus. Have them read the situation and say if it was a way to follow Jesus or not.
Then have them turn to the action that the situation describes by pointing the girl or boy arm to the action. Example: “You did something wrong and were afraid to tell your parents. You hoped they wouldn’t find out or that the guilty feelings would go away, but then you decided to tell the truth.” Boy/girl arm can be turned to BE HONEST.

CHOICE #2 This can be done another way. Have children take turns turning the wheel to their choice and then telling a way they can live this teaching of Jesus.

SUMMARY: Talk about My Gospel Standards, found on www.LDS.org or in the back of the Activity Days booklet. Most of these standards are found on the wheel.
