Nursery Lesson 14:
I Will Obey in the “Behold Your Little Ones” manual.
OBJECTIVE: Tell children that Heavenly Father has given our parents the responsibility to teach us His commandments. Our parents also need to take care of our physical and spiritual needs. Heavenly Father wants our parents to protect us from harm. If we obey our parents, He blesses us with safety and happiness.
POSTER ACTIVITY – Obedience Poster
1. Print or copy the activity poster to color.
2. Talk about the poster, saying, “I can be obedient. When my mother/father calls (call out) me, quickly (clap hands) I’ll obey!”
• Talk about things parents might ask children to do: pick up toys; make bed; wash face; brush teeth; comb hair; say prayers; go to sleep; be nice; say please, thank you, and excuse me; help at home; don’t touch; don’t hit, kick, or push; be reverent.
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Tell me ways that I can be obedient. Help me to understand why, and praise me when I do.”
THOUGHT TREAT: Obedience orange. Peel several oranges and split each between two children. Have children pull segments apart and, as they eat each piece, name ways they can obey. Say, “We can trust that what Heavenly Father and our parents ask us to do is right. When we obey them, we will be happy.”
SINGING for I Will Obey (Nursery Lesson 14) and I Can Be Obedient (Sunbeam Lesson 28) Sing “Quickly I’ll Obey” (Children’s Songbook, 197).
